Kevin Gates Sentences For Kicking A Female Fan

On Wednesday (Oct. 26), Kevin Gates was sentenced to six months in jail after being found guilty of misdemeanor battery. The rapper was convicted for kicking a woman in the chest during one of his concerts. The ruling did not sit well with Gates’ wife Dreka, who criticized the judge and legal process in an Instagram post.

“You mean to tell me that @iamkevingates kicked the girl in the red jumpsuit and knocked the breathe out her?” Dreka wrote. “Because that’s what she’s been claiming and testified today in court. If anything her friend choked the fuck out of her.”

Dreka took aim at the victim’s behavior in the aftermath of the incident. She also justified the actions of her husband, who attempted to use Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law to defend himself.

“She claims she fainted, but yet she and her friend stayed at the club at the front of the stage even after this incident,” she continued. “She also acquired a civil attorney early on…what does that tell you? She also touched him FIRST (more than once) without his consent but yet he was the one sentenced to jail today for the same crime. She and her friend also had very conflicting stories and were tripped up in many lies today in the courtroom.”

Gates’ wife’s final critique focused on the judge. She pointed out that the prosecution was only seeking a two month sentence, yet Gates was sentenced to six months in prison.

“It was comical and sad at the same time to see how desperate people are for fame and money,” she wrote. “Not to mention the prosecutors wanted to give him 60 days with anger management and community service but yet the judge decided to give him 180 days?!? Are you fucking kidding me. Inshallah justice will be served.”

Kevin Gates was represented by Jose Baez, who gained recognition for being Casey Anthony’s attorney, Baez claimed that Dixon, the victim of Gates’ attack, was using the case to seek more damages in a future civil trial.

Gucci Mane got himself an ice cream truck and brought it to NYC recently where he gave out free iced cream.

The generous rapper is helping his fans weather a really hot summer with some nice frozen treats. A new video released to YouTube shows the truck on the streets of NYC with a catchy slogan written on the side of it which says "#EverybodyLicking." Gucci is most likely using the truck to show love to his fans and promote his new album "Everybody Looking." The album is projected to sell between 50,000 and 60,000 copies within its first week. It features appearances from Drake, Kanye West and Young Thug.

Minc Messiah just proved a little time being away from the rap game does not effect his skills.

Performance Rights Organizations, are “societies responsible for collecting income on behalf of songwriters and music publishers when a song is publicly broadcast.” This means they collect money from anyone in the world using your music on your behalf. This includes things like Pandora streaming, internet radio, being featured in stores, or any publicly broadcast event. PRO's literally track down companies for you to make sure you get paid for your hard work and creations! The 3 main organizations are listed with detail below.

MUSICIANS ARE GETTING PAID ROYALTIES EVERYDAY AND SO CAN YOU

Did you know that every time you hear music in an elevator the artist who made it is getting paid?

Now i’m not saying go out and make elevator music (but if you’d like to, go ahead). What you should do is get involved with the organizations that take care of royalties for artists.

In the US it’s ASCAP. In Canada it’s SOCAN. But most major countries have services that take care of royalties for artists.

In 2014, ASCAP paid out $883.5 million to artists. Now that’s some major cheddar.

INVEST IN YOURSELF

There’s ton’s of ways to spend a bit to make A LOT.

Pretty much everything on this list is going to take a bit of capital to get going—making t-shirts, pressing records and all the other obvious costs.

But the easiest and best way to invest in your music is to make sure it’s sounding the absolute best before you start shopping it around.

Invest in good audio mastering. It’s essential to make sure your music is going to sound perfect in all playback situations.

MO’ MONEY, LESS PROBLEMS

The best thing you should do is re-invest into your project.

Keep an artist fund that you only touch when you have to. Save it up and use it wisely to grow your project even more.

Just don’t blame us when all your less savvy artist friends start hitting you up for loans.
